Happy New Year: Celebrating The Year Of The Dragon

Posted on Category : Blog

The new moon on January 23, 2012 welcomes the year of the Dragon.  The Dragon is associated with strength, luck, health, wealth and harmony.  People born under the year of the Dragon are strong, charismatic with an active mind with a keen interest in the world around them.

According to Chinese astrology, the energy of the Dragon belongs to the Water element.  The Dragon energy symbolizes power and the element of Water harmonizes or calms the fire of the Dragon to create spiritual balance.  For 2012, the Water Dragon is a great year for new beginnings, spiritual transformation, and good fortune.

The Water Dragon encourages all to adopt healthier lifestyles to enhance physical and spiritual wellness.  It is a time to explore the energy of your spirit and be open to the healing power of the Dragon within.

What can one do to tap into the healing power of the Water Dragon?

Nourishing Your Water Dragon

Pay close attention to your kidneys, adrenals and bones.  The Water element influences energy to support our bones, bone marrow, adrenals, brain, kidneys and bladder function. Low back pain, knee pain, osteoporosis, memory loss, decreased energy and vitality may manifest during a Water element season/year.

Here are some basic tips:

  • Move your Qi (life energy).  Qi is vital energy, or vital force that is inherent in all living things.  Qi provides the energy necessary for growth, development, and maintenance to strengthen and protect the body from illness and disease.  Move your energy through daily exercise!  Complement your daily exercise routine by learning Qi Gong, Taiji, Yoga, and Pilates to strengthen your vitality, balance, and coordination.
  • Let go.  Take the time to practice letting go of unnecessary emotions or “baggage” that may prevent you from achieving your goals/purpose.  Letting go can free up energy pathways within the body allowing the free flow of positive energy throughout.  Water is about cleansing, transformation, and movement.
  • Focus on the Positive!  Create intentions and actions to work at feeling grateful for what you already have and for what you believe will come.  Shift your focus from frustration and lack towards feelings of gratitude and abundance.  Believe and know that you can make whatever changes to create the life you want.
  • Get Acupuncture Regularly.  Acupuncture modulates the immune and circulatory systems triggering the body to utilize its innate resources to restore balance and health through the elimination of toxins and by fighting inflammation from within.  This process helps the body heal itself and is great for health maintenance and prevention.
